Union County Courthouse History
Union County was created January 15, 1811, from Henderson County, and Morganfield became the county seat in 1812. The first courthouse was built in 1811-1812. A second courthouse followed in 1819-1820 and was later destroyed during the Civil War. The current historic courthouse was built in 1871-1872, opened in 1872, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 17, 1978.
